Phlebotomy Classes and Curriculum
The curriculum for the study of phlebotomy can include such topics as the history of phlebotomy, how to conduct medical billing, processes for achieving quality assurance, different medical terminology, the anatomy and the physiology of the human body, the human circulatory system, safety and infection control, patient safety, lab testing, dealing with difficult patients, legal situations in phlebotomy, customer service, the practice and process of venipuncture, and the methods of specimen collection and supplies.
For most certification programs, part of the required curriculum can include the completion of an approved or accredited phlebotomy training program, a minimum of forty hours of clinical laboratory and instructive lecture training, the performance of at least fifty successful venipunctures while in a classroom setting or at a field clinical site, a high school diploma or a GED certificate, and finally, the successful passing of an accredited certification examination.
